A dinner idea to impress?

A family is moving into our house and we’re moving just a few blocks away, and they’re from michigan so my parents thought it would be a good idea to show them some southern hospitality since they won’t know anyone.. and there’s a guy about my age that would be cool to impress with my cooking skills hahaha.

I’m looking for something simple, but still lots of stuff to make to feed about 10 people plus leftovers.
I know I want to make orzo salad (a family recipe).. but I want more ideas.

What cook book should my fiance and I buy?

As part of a fresh start to a New Year, my fiance and I have decided to start cooking new recipes together once a week. We would like to get a cook book, and every week, try a new recipe. We don’t want anything too fancy. We are planning to have kids sometime in the near future, and would like to learn how to make some good home cooked meals. Examples would be any kinds of pastas, chicken dishes (like stuffed chicken, chicken parmigiana, etc.), pot roasts, ribs, etc.

This Is For Southern Cooks-Turkey Day Menus?

I’m a transplanted NYer living in Nashville Tn after I married my husband (he’s originally from Atlanta, Georgia)

Last year was my first ‘Turkey Day’ in my Nashville Home….I made the kind of traditional turkey day dinner I grew up eating and there were happy tummies all around the table but….

I would like to have a southern flavor or ‘twist’ to my meal this year so…..
…I need some real southern cooks to give me some ideas for dishes I can prepare…and please, no fried turkey…everyone wants my roasted bird, especially since I just got a convection oven (man, the bird last year was so juicy because of convection roasting).

What are so good Southern Recipes?

I’m makeing a cookbook for my step grandparents for xmas. They are from Maine/New york and travel down to VA all the time to visit me. They love the food here and can’t gt waht the like up there very much. I just wanted to know so good recipes other than just fried chicken.
I mean OTHER than just fried chicken!
